Al Qaeda Claims New Anti-Aircraft Capability

By James T. McKenna | February 8, 2007

Al Qaeda's putative leader in Iraq claims the group has “at our disposal new technology that enables us to bring down aircraft” and vowed that “in the next month, you will see a real U.S. military helicopter graveyard,” the Web site ADN Kronos International reports. Citing an interview of the official, Abu Musab al-Falluji, by the Web site Islammemo, it quotes him as claiming insurgents have downed 15 helicopters in Iraq; U.S. military officials have acknowledged the loss of five military helicopters and one civilian one in the last three weeks, including a U.S. Marine Corps CH-46 that crashed northwest of Baghdad Feb. 7. All but the CH-46 have been confirmed as shootdowns. For related news
