Sikorsky Aircraft’s S-92 in March completed functionality and effectiveness tests of its missile countermeasures system at Eglin AFB, Fla. and Naval Weapons Test Center China Lake, Calif. The chaff and flare dispensing system is a version BAE Systems’ ALE-47 in service on the UH-60, MH-60, HH-60, and international version of the Black Hawk, the S-70. The system allows the pilot to release flares to counter a missile that may be homing in on the helicopter. The standard S-92 survivability suite offered to international customers is based on that system, the Alliant Techsystems AAR-47 missile warning system, and the Northrop Grumman APR-39 radar warning receiver.
