First Flight for Piasecki’s SpeedHawk?

By James T. McKenna | June 27, 2007

Piasecki Aircraft folks are anticipating the first flight of their X-49A SpeedHawk compound helicopter today, weather permitting. They’d completed high-speed taxi runs in the last couple of days and had targeted today for the first liftoff of the modified Sikorsky Aircraft H-60 from Boeing’s flight test facility in Wilmington, Del. The U.S. Army’s Aviation Applied Technology Directorate is funding the latest round of work on the project, which adds a variable-thrust ducted propeller to the tail and low wings to the fuselage of the H-60. Boeing is supporting the project. For related news
