Rotorcraft Report: Air Ambulance Service Expands in Israel

By Staff Writer | July 1, 2007

An air ambulance operator, Red Star of David, will join Magan David Adom, Israel’s Red Cross, to work in coordination with Magan David Adom’s fleet of ambulances and assist with patient evacuation to hospitals. Red Star of David operates Eurocopter BO105s. This is the second attempt Magan David has made to incorporate air ambulance into its service. In the first attempt in the early 1970s, the cost was deemed too high. Until now, the Israeli air force has been responsible for rescue and evacuation of civilians injured in terror attacks and traffic accidents. Lahak, a financial investment company that will also employ pilots and maintain the helicopters, will purchase the helicopters.
