EU Official: Italy Must Open Helo Contracts

By Staff Writer | July 11, 2007

A senior advisor to the European Commission has backed the commission’s claim that Italy’s practice of awarding contracts to Agusta SpA for helicopters designated for civil use must be opened up to European companies. Under the European Union’s common market rules, nations are to be allowed equal access to public contracts however governments may exclude military contracts. The advisor’s opinion is not binding on the court, but the judges usually follow the opinion.      For related news
