China says the civilian H425 helicopter it has developed through independent domestic research has been certified for use by its Commission of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defense.

The H425 has met all its program requirements and, Chinese officials claim, has even surpassed the quality of some similar models in the global market. The helicopter’s top speed is reported to be 151 kt (280km/hr). It is said to be designed to perform rescue missions at more than 9,800 ft (3000 m) msl. In late 2006, Turbomeca and China Aviation Industry Corp. 2 agreed to collaborate on production of Arriel 2 turboshaft engines for the H425.
