Saint-Tropez Crowd Faces Helo Crackdown

By James T. McKenna | August 9, 2007

Jet setters in Saint-Tropez may find their style cramped since French authorities limited helicopter flights to the exclusive French Riviera resort following noise complaints, Reuters reports. They closed a helipad that handles about 30 percent of helicopter traffic to Saint-Tropez after what they said were abuses of an agreement to limit flights. A voluntary agreement last year authorized about 1,200 flight movements a year and set limits at certain times of the day, a French official said, but about 5,000 flights had been registered between June and August 2006. Helicopters ferry passengers over the traffic jams into Saint-Tropez, and also to other villages and marinas along the coast.
