U.K. Probes RAF Puma Crash

By James T. McKenna | August 9, 2007

U.K. officials are investigating why a Royal Air Force Puma HC1 crashed in the east-central part of that nation late on Aug. 8, killing two people and injuring 10, the BBC reports. The Eurocopter helicopter from 33 Sqdn. at RAF Benson crashed to the west of the United Kingdom’s largest Army base, Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. The BBC quoted North Yorkshire police as saying three of those on board were RAF crew, and nine were British Army passengers. A witness reported he “watched this helicopter quite rapidly go straight up into the air and . . . it sounded like the engine was misfiring or something.” For related news
