By Staff Writer | August 29, 2007

The Indian deal for 197 light utility helicopters has not been put on hold, according to Zeenews.com. The Indian Rajya Sabha, the Council of States, was told by the Indian defense minister that the defense procurement procedure is being followed and that a decision will be made when all stages of the process are complete. Eurocopter’s AS550 Fennec and Bell Helicopter’s 407 were both entered in the $600 million competition. The winner will replace the aging Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.  Cheetahs and Chetaks. New light helicopters, Chetals and Chetans, upgrades of the Hindustan aircraft, have been brought in as replacements. No time limit has been set for when the contract will be finalized. The U.S. government has voiced  concern about Bell’s apparent exclusion from the final bidding.     . For related news
