Sikorsky Aircraft Selects New Filtration System for CH-53K

By Staff Writer | October 2, 2007

Sikorsky Aircraft has selected a filtration system manufactured by the Donaldson Company, Minneapolis, Minn. for the Sikorsky CH-53K heavy lift program. The new platform will permit the U.S. Marine Corps to fly in remote environments while being provided an increase in lift capability and maintaining naval shipboard capability. Replacing the current inventory of CH-53Es, the CH-53K is scheduled to achieve its initial operating capability by FY 2015. DonaldsonĀ  will use its patented Strata Tube technology and will design, develop, and qualify an inlet filter system to protect the engines from damage caused by contamination. The system is designed to protect the turbine engines from sand and dust ingestion. Sikorsky expects to deliver at least 156 of the helicopters to the Marine Corps. For related news
