Sikorsky Opens Hawk Works

By James T. McKenna | October 8, 2007

Sikorsky Aircraft has opened Hawk Works @ Schweizer, its military aircraft completion center on the west side of the Elmira/Corning Regional Airport near Horseheads, N.Y. Crews from Schweizer Aircraft, a Sikorsky subsidiary, will undertake major completion work for variants of the H-60 and S-70 Black Hawk at the 100,000-sq-ft center.  Schweizer has assembled the Sikorsky X-2 technology demonstrator at the facility. The marketing of the Black Hawk to the international market will keep the facility busy. Helicopters needing customized configurations will be manufactured at the company’s facilities in Connecticut and transported to Hawk Works for completion. The new facility is located one-quarter mile from the Schweizer facility. Sikorsky announced plans to open the facility in June 2006. For related news
