South Korea Ready to Display New Helicopter

South Korea is ready to display a model of its next-generation military transport helicopter at the Seoul Air Show this week in Seongnam, south of Seoul, according to The aircraft is in development; production is slated to begin in 2012. Korea Aerospace Industries, the prime contractor, is partnered with Eurocopter on the program. The new aircraft would replace the country’s fleet of Bell Helicopter UH-1Hs and McDonnell Douglas MD-500s. Under the 1.3 trillion won ($1.38 billion) program, 245 helicopters would be produced. The country’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration envisions exporting the aircraft at a cost of 15 billion won ($16 million) each. For related news
