San Diego Opts for Second Firefighting Helicopter

By James T. McKenna | December 7, 2007

San Diego's Fire-Rescue Dept. is in line to get a second helicopter. The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the city's major, Jerry Sanders, has signed off on plans to purchase a second firefighting helicopter. The mayor's office said a second helicopter would ensure that there is at least one firefighting aircraft available at all times in the event of an emergency, such as the recent wildfires that ravaged San Diego County. The department currently operates a single Bell Helicopter 212, which it bought in July 2005. For related news
