Bell Helicopter’s  Model 429 is scheduled to undergo an internal review today to determine whether the aircraft’s configuration should be frozen and regulators advised that the new light twin is ready to enter the final stages of certification testing. The so-called "Gate 5" review was advanced two months because of good progress is certification testing to date and optimization of the aircraft’s design. High-altitude testing in recent months led to incorporation into the design of a 3-ft-long strake on the left side of the aircraft’s tailboom and a sculpted and extended vertical fin (done to improve tail-rotor authority).
