Bell Helicopter and Eurocopter are maneuvering for advantage in the planned rebidding of India’s competition to acquire 197 light utility helicopters.
India canceled the selection of Eurocopter’s AS355C3 Fennec for the contract after Bell and U.S. diplomats raised objections over Bell’s elimination from the bidding. India officials cited apparent improprieties in the bidding process.
Bell is offering the Model 407 for the Indian Army requirement to replace Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.-built Chetaks and Cheetahs. The requirement dates to 2001.
The 197-aircraft order is valued at $600 million.
