Rotorcraft Report: Bell Parent Buys Engine Shop

By Staff Writer | February 1, 2008

Bell Helicopter has added McTurbine, Inc., to its customer support and service group through the marriage of parents.

Bell parent Textron last year completed the acquisition of United Industrial Corp., which owns McTurbine and unmanned aircraft maker AAI Corp., maker of the Shadow fixed-wing UAV.

The integration of McTurbine will add engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul to Bell’s existing support and service capabilities.

Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, McTurbine has about 100 employees and is a Honeywell-authorized service center for both T-53s and T-55s.

AAI bought McTurbine in 2006 for $31 million. McTurbine was then a subsidiary of M International, Inc.

Bell is looking to expand its worldwide customer support network through acquisition of existing companies as well as the expansion of its own capabilities.
