Rolls-Royce in late December won FAA type certification of its new 300-shp-class RR300, which will power Robinson Helicopter’s first turbine, the five-seat R66. The manufacturer launched the RR300 program in January 2006, and so completed development, testing, and certification of the new engine in fewer than 24 months–and impressive feat. Rolls is now working on getting a production certificate from the FAA so it can begin serial manufacturer of the powerplant, which Schweizer Aircraft also has selected for its new, four-bladed S-434.
