India to Subsidize Helicopter Service

India’s civil aviation department is seeking bids for a contract to offer subsidized, daily helicopter service between Guwahati and Tawang in northeastern India, according to The Economic Times newspaper. It said the tender for those bids is being finalized, a process that “may take a couple of weeks.” India’s cabinet on Jan. 30 reportedly approved subsidizing 52 hr of flying between Guwahati, the city in Assam state considered the gateway to India’s Northeast, and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh state to the north, which is a popular tourist destination.
