Sikorsky Chooses Goodrich VHUMS

By Staff Writer | July 14, 2008

The new Vigor Health Usage and Management System (VHUMS) will be used on the S-76D executive transport helicopter. VHUMS is a new family of lower cost, full functionality health usage management systems (HUMS) optimized for mid-size helicopters. The system will monitor the entire helicopter mechanical drive train from the engines to the rotor system, flight manual exceedances, and hundreds of aircraft system signals. The advanced information provided by VHUMS alerts operators to take preventative maintenance steps that avoid costly, lengthy repairs in the future. Sikorsky's S-76D is a mid-size helicopter serving the corporate VIP, offshore oil, airline, EMS/search-and-rescue and law enforcement markets. Initial certification is planned for the fourth quarter of 2009. Goodrich HUMS are in use on U.S. Army UH-60A/L/M and CH-47D helicopters, U.S. Navy and Marine Corps MH-60R/S, AH-1Z, UH-1Y, and CH-53E platforms, and the commercial Sikorsky S-92 helicopter.
