Rescue on the Way for Italian Climbers

By Staff Writer | July 23, 2008

Three climbers became trapped on Pakistan’s Nanga Parbat in the Himalayas and one of them fell into a ravine and died. The other two were spotted by a rescue helicopter nearly a week after the tragedy struck. The two survivors, Simon Kehrer and Walter Nones, are forced to continue to climb down the mountain until they reach 19,600 ft (6,000 meters) so that the helicopter can take advantage of clear weather and fly in to rescue them.
