LifeFlight of Maine has been named Best Program of the Year by the by the Assoc. of Air Medical Services. The Lewiston-based air ambulance service is the only helicopter operation of its kind in the state, and operates out of bases in Bangor and Lewiston. The company, which began flying on September 28, 1998, employs 10 pilots and 38 medical crewmembers, who transport patients aboard a pair of Agusta Westland A109E Power helicopters. “The concept was to improve access to the health care system,” said Sandy Benton, medical program director at the Bangor base. “And I think we certainly have done that hands down.” For related news
