Reducing the Footprint

By Staff Writer | October 9, 2008

Sydney-based Wieland Helicopter Technologies (WHT) uses coaxial rotor systems for their helicopters. This design, according to the company’s Web site, is quieter than traditional helicopters and has a smaller carbon footprint than existing alternative designs. Now, WHT has joined forces with Sean Herbert, a man who began testing the electric helicopter concept two years ago. With WHT, Herbert developed one-, two-, four- and five-seat electric helos by working with the coaxial rotor system. Currently, the electric option will only allow up to 35 min flying time, but the range all depends on what batteries are utilized.
