China Sends Helos to Fight Pirates

China is the latest country ready to send military assets to the Gulf of Aden to help combat Somalian pirates hijacking ships in transit through the region. The naval group, which will depart for the region on Dec. 26, represents the first time in 60 years China has deployed forces overseas. The ships and a compliment of helicopters will be used primarily to protect Chinese-flagged vessels in an area where armed pirates have been blamed for more than 40 actual hijackings this year. Chinese officials report that 20 percent of the 1,265 ships operated by its countrymen in the Gulf of Aden have come under attack, as well. For related news
