A spokesman for the Afghan Nation Army reports that one of its helicopters crashed in the Adraskan district of Herat province, killing a top Afghan general and 12 others on board. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but the region’s notoriously bad weather is believed to have been a critical factor. Hostile weapons fire, however, has not been totally ruled out. The general, whose name has yet to be released, and his entourage were en route to visit an army base in neighboring Farah province. For related news
