Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has ordered more helicopters to Afghanistan to transport wounded soldiers from hostile areas to field hospitals. According to the Department of Defense, the average time between an injury and the victim’s arrival at a field trauma center is one hour in Iraq, but two hours in Afghanistan. Gates hopes to lessen the wait in the Afghan theater by increasing the number of medevac helicopters there by 25 percent. For related news
