A North Carolina man has been arrested for shining a laser light at a police aircrew on the evening of January 3. Nicholas Wheeler now faces federal charges of interfering with a flight crew. It occurred when the pilot, Officer Peter Letson of Wilmington, N.C. Police Department helicopter crew, while helping police survey a scene of a domestic violence dispute, caught a glimpse of a laser light shining at his OH-58. The pilot and the tactical flight officer used a combination of night vision goggles and forward-looking infrared to locate the source of the light and guide ground units to Wheeler, who still had the laser device in his possession.
