Amarillo College, in Texas, has collaborated with Bell Helicopter for almost 10 years. Now, with Bell’s new 137,000-square-foot hanger expansion in the works in Amarillo, the aerospace manufacturing college students have a better chance of landing a job with the manufacturer. Bell approves the classroom curriculum and then guarantees successful graduates an interview. The courses were viewed as part of a continuing education program, but students now receive an academic certificate upon graduation. To date, 400 students have graduated from the college’s program and nearly three-quarters are employed with Bell. Students learn everything from how the helicopters are built to the avionics equipment. The Amarillo Economic Development Corp. provided $31 million for the hangar expansion. For related news
