PLBs Return

By Staff Writer | June 4, 2009

After a Super Puma, flying workers offshore, ditched in the North Sea this winter, it was discovered that the personal locator beacons passengers wore on their wrists might have caused the long-range rescue beacons on the aircraft and life rafts to stop working. Oil and Gas U.K. will bring the PLBs back in July after shutting down the technology that stops the aircraft and life raft beacons from working. Before reintroducing the PLBs, all models will be tested by the manufacturers and must be approved by the CAA. For related news
