U.S. Offers 12 Helicopters to India

In an effort to assist the Indian Defence Ministry build a more effective coastal security perimeter, the U.S. has offered to lease the IDM 12 helicopters. Reports indicate that the deal is the first of its kind between the two countries. The aircraft will be AgustaWestland and Sikorsky products, presumably AW139s and Black Hawks, respectively. India wants to build its defense strength quickly, so it has also approached India-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for 12 Dornier airplanes and has also requested helicopters and airplanes from private sources.
