EMS Copter Honors Late Trauma Chief

By Staff Writer | June 29, 2009

Boston Medical Center’s new Sikorsky S-76 EMS helicopter will honor Dr. Erwin Hirsch, the hospital’s late trauma chief, through the blue registration numbers, N72EH, on its silver engine nacelles. Hirsch, who died in a recreational boating accident in May of 2008, was a driving force behind the development of the center’s helicopter program, which began in 1985. The operation now boasts three helicopters and a jet based at Hanscom Field (BED) and Plymouth (PYM) Airports in Massachusetts. Hirsch was 72 years old - the numeric part of the registration - and a MedFlight board member. For related news
