The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in Brazil has issued approval for Kent, Wash.-based Geneva Aviation to install electronic news gathering (ENG) equipment in helicopters registered that country. The certification follows similar action by Transport Canada, and Geneva says that EASA approval is imminent.
Among the equipment cleared for installation are broadcast-quality audio and video systems, custom instrument panel with avionics console, rear communications console, high-definition camera controller, Cineflex HD camera with AirFilm camera mount and Troll antenna, equipment rack, camera control box and microwave radio rack with MRC/LINK radios.
Geneva recently equipped two Eurocopter AS350s with ENG packages for Brazil’s TV Globo and one for TV Record. President Steve Joseph explains that the helicopters "are designed to function as flying news studios, with the ability to record, edit, and mix audio and video footage, and then transmit news stories to the broadcast station for distribution."
