Sikorsky Aircraft’s CH-53K heavy lift helicopter program is on target for a Critical Design Review this year. The announcement comes after an Integration Design Review (IDR), a two-day meeting in late 2009 that assembled key contributors to the CH-53K program, including representatives from the U.S. Defense Secretary’s Office, the NAVAIR Technical Review Board and the NAVAIR/Sikorsky team. Under the $3-billion system development and demonstration program, Sikorsky is building a replacement for the U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E, with initial production targeted at upwards of 200 helicopters.
