Global Steering Group Seeks to Improve HFDM Practices

By Staff Writer | June 1, 2010

A new organization is striving to boost helicopter safety through best practices and helicopter flight data monitoring (HFDM). The Global HFDM Steering Group—formed after March’s CHC Safety & Quality Summit in Vancouver—is made up of more than 70 people representing 48 organizations around the planet. The group “sees to make HFDM as accessible as possible to all operators both large and small, by sharing information with the intent of making HFDM easy for operators to implement,” according to a statement. The Steering Group points out that HFDM is a key initiative of the International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST), which was formed in 2005 with the intent of reducing civil rotorcraft accidents by 80 percent within a decade. The group will next convene during Helitech in Estoril, Portugal in early October. For more details, visit the Steering Group’s website at (From June 2010 Rotorcraft Report)
