Construction Starts on AW139 Assembly Plant in Russia

By Staff Writer | August 1, 2010

Russian Helicopters and AgustaWestland have begun building a 430,550-square-foot (40,000-square-meter) AW139 assembly plant in Tomilino, which is near Moscow. The complex will produce more than 20 civil AW139s annually by 2015, starting with five helicopters each year in 2011. HeliVert, a joint venture of AgustaWestland and Russian Helicopters, will operate the facility. The company anticipates creating more than 100 jobs at the assembly plant. Breaking ground on the site represents the next step in collaborative efforts between AgustaWestland and UIC Oboronprom, parent company of Russian Helicopters. (From August 2010 Rotorcraft Report)
