EMS Operators Oppose Equipment Upgrades

Noting equipage cost as a major factor, air medical helicopter operators are resisting calls from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NSTB) to implement technologies that would increase safety, such as night vision goggles, autopilot controls and H-TAWS. A recent increase in fatal crashes has led NTSB to seek regulations beyond voluntary measures implemented by FAA in 2008 that followed an uptick in HEMS crashes.
