Sikorsky Aerospace Services (SAS) has received the go-ahead for 11 additional modified S-61s under an existing deal with the U.S. State Department. At Heli-Expo in February, the State Dept placed a five-year IDIQ contract involving up to 110 S-61s, which are intended for utility, personnel and cargo transport missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. The first four helicopters purchased under the agreement are scheduled for deployment this fall. Delivery of the 11 newly ordered S-61s is set to begin in mid-2011.
