Lockheed Martin and Bloomfield, Conn.-based Kaman Corp. are proposing the K-MAX in response to a U.S. Navy request for an unmanned cargo helicopter. In April 2010 flight trials, the companies displayed the helicopter’s ability to hover at 12,000 feet with a 1,500-lb sling load and drop 3,000 lbs of cargo, among other performance requirements under the Navy program.
