By Staff Writer | October 26, 2010

Boeing has secured a $247-million U.S. Army contract to begin low rate initial production (LRIP) for eight Block III AH-64D Apaches in the Lot 1 configuration. Signed in early October, a U.S. DoD acquisition decision memorandum gave the green light for the helicopter program to enter the LRIP phase, which involves 51 aircraft. The government finalized the deal for the first eight on Oct. 22. Deliveries are scheduled to start in October 2011.
