PHI Helo Collides With Cessna 172

A PHI-registered air medical Eurocopter EC135P2+ was involved in a mid-air collision with a Cessna 172 on Friday above Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD) near Staunton, Va. The AirCare 5 helicopter, which was able to land in a field a half-mile from the airport, was returning from the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville when it struck the Cessna around 2:30 p.m. Two passengers aboard the Cessna 172—Jacob Kiser or Grottoes and Jason Long of Edinburg—died in the crash, according to Virginia State Police.
