Japanese Disaster Relief Deploys AW139

AgustaWestland and Mitsui Bussan Aerospace have received an order for an AW139 from Saitama Prefecture of Japan. The helicopter will conduct firefighting, EMS, disaster relief and air rescue/transport missions. It will feature a belly tank, FLIR camera, weather radar, searchlight, cargo hook, rescue hoist and loudspeaker. Avionics will include an enhanced vision system (EVS), traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) and enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS). AgustaWestland will assemble the AW139 at its plant in Philadelphia. Delivery is scheduled for late 2011, with entry into service in spring 2012.
