AAR Deploys S-92s to Afghanistan
Sikorsky Aircraft has handed over two S-92s to AAR Corp. for passenger and cargo missions in Afghanistan. AAR is conducting operations for the U.S. Transportation Command, which supplies services for the Department of Defense. Both helicopters are designed with flexible interior space in order to accommodate passengers or cargo.
Russian Helicopters Opens India JV
Integrated Helicopter Services, a joint venture of Russian Helicopters and India’s Vectra Group, is now offering rotorcraft maintenance and repairs from a new facility in Greater Noida, a suburb of New Delhi. The company officially opened the service complex in February. It provides major repairs for engines and avionics, and will also house a training center and spare parts inventory.
Lockheed Seeks Australian MH-60R Suppliers
Under a Global Supply Chain (GSC) Deed, Lockheed Martin is planning to offer subcontracts to companies in Australia related to aircraft hardware on the Sikorsky MH-60R. One of the first contracts up for bid is the weapons pylons. A team of Lockheed Martin, Sikorsky, GE, Raytheon and CAE are offering the MH-60R for Australia’s Air 900 Phase 8 competition. Source selection for the pylons is expected before the end of the year.
Unmanned K-MAX Continues Testing
During trials in late January, Kaman and Lockheed Martin continued to make strides in the testing of the unmanned K-MAX at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona. The helicopter conducted 16 airdrops from a sling load at 10,000 feet above sea level and 10 GPS-guided Joint Precision Aerial Delivery Systems (JPADS) deliveries. According to Kaman, other firsts achieved during the test flights include the largest payload (4,400 lbs) dropped using a sling load from a helicopter and first airdrop of the High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) parachute system.
Lockheed Delivers Milestone M-TADS/PNVS
During a ceremony in February, Lockheed Martin officials marked the handover of the 1,000th modernized target acquisition designation sight/pilot night vision sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) to the U.S. Army. The Arrowhead unit is used on the Army’s Boeing AH-64D Apache.
