Revue Thommen Searchlight Deliveries Begin in July

By By Andrew Drwiega | March 5, 2011

Revue Thommen has begun production of its new HSL-1600 helicopter searchlight, the first 31 of which are going to an undisclosed Asian customer (30) and an Australian commercial customer. Ken Paul, North American business manager, said that any North American orders received during Heli-Expo would be delivered after July 1, 2011.
The HSL-1600 is a fully integrated system “more in common with a FLIR camera.” Paul said: “This reduces installation time and extensive caballing.” The weight of the unit is 64.4 lbs. The searchlight slews round when not operating to prevent damage through bird strikes, etc. It is pressurized inside and has a range of 1,000 meters with a 4 to 20-degree beam focus. A smaller version, the HSL-800, which is more suitable for single-engine helicopters, will be available from Q1 2012. It will weigh 40 lbs. Both searchlights are designed and produced in Switzerland.
