Cobham announced on Monday that FAA has issued a supplemental type certificate (STC) for its HeliSAS autopilot and stability augmentation system on the Bell 206B, 206L and 407. According to the company, the system’s attitude-command/attitude-hold SAS+ full-autopilot configuration allows a variety of functions, including hands-off flight and precise control, regardless of wind conditions or shifts in weight. With the approval, “robust autopilot functions, once reserved for military or large commercial helicopters, are now available to Bell 206B, 206L and 407 operators,” a company representative stated. Cobham has also entered into a distribution agreement with DAC International for sales in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and South America.
