The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) has named the Sikorsky X2 demonstrator as the recipient of the 2010 Robert J. Collier Trophy. The coaxial helicopter was chosen over other nominees, including teams for the Boeing C-17A Globemaster III, MC-12W Project Liberty and X-51A WaveRider. Sikorsky Innovations Director Chris Van Buiten noted the significance of a helicopter being chosen for the award “in this age of supersonics, hypersonics and space flight.” President Jeff Pino added that the achievement recognizes the “hard work, skill and dedication of many people.” NAA will present the trophy to the X2 development team during a May 5 event in Arlington, Va.
