Chief Warrant Officer Chase Magann is being given the “Ironhorse Soldier of the Week,” award from 4th Infantry Division for responding to an improvised rocket attack in Diyala Province, Iraq. Magann was piloting an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior in late February with CWO Mike Walton, while another OH-58D with Capt. Seth Power and CWO Travis Prohaska were training behind. Both crews are part of A “Aces” Troop, 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, which is attached to the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade. Magann is being recognized for taking out five improvised rocket launchers via helicopter after determining that ground forces wouldn’t be able to reach the threat in time. Maj. Gen. David Perkins will present the Ironhorse award to Magann during the first week of April.
