Emerging from a cloud of smoke with music blaring in the background, Eurocopter’s newest variant—the EC145T2—took to stage at the company’s Heli-Expo booth. President & CEO Lutz Bertling (right) appeared from the cockpit to address a crowd gathered for the unveiling event.
The “Tango 2” features new Turbomeca Arriel 2E engines, a modular avionics suite and Eurocopter’s Fenestron shrouded tail rotor. Intended for the EMS, offshore and corporate/VIP markets, the T2 is scheduled for delivery in 2013. Eurocopter reported a series of launch orders going into the show, with Spain’s Inaer signing for 10 helicopters, Metro Aviation securing five (including the demo version showcased at Eurocopter’s booth) and Leading Edge and Lewis Energy ordering one each.
