AgustaWestland and Mitsui Bussan have sold an AW139 to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of Japan. The helicopter will carry out firefighting, EMS, search and rescue, and passenger transport operations. It will come with a package of mission-specific equipment, including a belly tank firefighting system, weather radar, searchlight, cargo hook, rescue hoist, ice detection system, loudspeaker and dual rappelling hooks. Avionics upgrades include an enhanced vision system (EVS), enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS) and traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS). AgustaWestland plans to deliver the AW139 late this year, with service entry scheduled for spring 2012.
