U.S. military and Japanese emergency response personnel conducted a bilateral helicopter field training exercise in late April in Okinawa. Part of the Camp Lester and Torii Station exercises involved a simulated U.S. Navy helicopter crash in the water, with Japanese first responders dispatching first, and the U.S. military following. Japan Coast Guard and U.S. Air Force search and rescue helicopters participated in patient transport maneuvers.
