The Spanish Maritime Safety Agency (SASEMAR) has ordered a Eurocopter EC225 to support its search and rescue (SAR) and pollution control operations. The new EC225 is the first step in SASEMAR’s national plan that focuses on large helicopter air support for the Canary Islands and the southern portion of the Bay of Biscay. The EC225 replaces a Sikorsky S-61N. Also placing its first EC225 order is Air Greenland. The commercial and EMS operator currently flies a fleet of 12 AS350s, eight Bell 212s and two Sikorsky S-61s. The new helicopters are scheduled for delivery in 2014.
