Rockwell Tests CAAS on Army Black Hawk

By Staff Writer | April 2, 2012

Rockwell Collins has completed a series of flight tests of its Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) on a U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk. Among the CAAS features vetted during the test flights—which involved the Army’s Aviation Applied Technology Directorate under a cooperative R&D agreement—was 3D synthetic vision in low-level flying.

Dave Nieuwsma, vice president and general manager of airborne solutions, noted that many of the synthetic vision tests involved altitudes applicable to real-life helicopter missions. The CAAS system for helicopters is developed from Rockwell Collins’ Pro Line Fusion flight deck for fixed-wing business and regional aircraft.
